The Problem with Porn

It’s tough to say when pornography became mainstream, although it happened somewhere in the last two decades.

Because of the internet’s availability and speedier web connections, pornography has evolved over the last few decades. It’s also getting more immersive than it has been in the past. Take virtual reality, for example. The key concern surrounding porn is whether it has the potential to encourage, normalize, or even instigate acts of rape and sexual violence. This question arises every time a violent crime involves the perpetrator’s porn use.

False expectations

It’ll screw with your sexual expectations.

Porn generates inaccurate ideas about love and sex in the minds of males. Women in porn have immaculate airbrushed bodies and are always hot and ready to go. Because the girls they encounter don’t measure up to the women in their publications and on their websites, porn-obsessed men have a hard time initiating any form of a serious relationship. Watching those big tits porn girls can severely impact men’s intimate relationships with their partners. The satisfaction level of a person’s sex life decreases. Pornography can cause problems in relationships and make people unhappy with their partners.

Exploitation

The pornographic industry has no bounds when it comes to exploiting or dehumanizing people in the name of sexual amusement. Exploitation of young women is extremely common. Hentai, a popular genre in porn, in particular, makes use of nefarious animated fantasies involving children, animals, and whatever else comes to mind. The searches for “MILF,” “stepmom,” and “mom” are all based on “fauxcest” fantasies—or imagined incest. And “teen” capitalizes on fantasies involving young teenagers, who are frequently exploited or coerced into humiliating sex activities.

Controversial genres

When something is controversial, or off-limits in society, producers are more likely to use it for shock value and sell it as a sexual “dream.” The porn producers don’t display things so that people may learn, feel empathy, be entertained by a good joke or a funny situation, or gain a better grasp of a complex issue through scripts and storytelling. Porn does something very unique. Porn celebrates the humiliation, degradation, and dehumanization of those on film by making their humiliation a source of sexual amusement.

Objectification of women

There is no consideration for the dignity or humanity of any of the people represented in these fetishized circumstances in pornography. Pornography produces objects out of individuals, some of whom are minors or are stigmatized due to their sexual orientation. Porn reduces women to objects. It reduces women to “things” who exist solely to satisfy a man’s sexual desires. Porn removes the need to emotionally or intellectually connect with a woman.

False representations

For several years, “lesbian” porn has been the most popular pornographic genre. In these videos, generally made for a male audience, exaggerated and false representations of female same-sex relationships are the center of an objectifying fantasy. These “girl on girl” scenes are intended to fetishize a sexual orientation and play off stereotypes that frequently distort lesbian relationships.
